Welcome to my studio for saxophone tone production and jazz improvisation—a space dedicated to helping musicians find a freer, richer sound and a deeper connection to their musical voice. I teach saxophonists, improvisers, and performers who want to improve their tone, strengthen their time feel, build expressive technique, and develop a personal approach to jazz.
Drawing on decades of performing and teaching I focus a full-bodied, overtone-rich, freely resonating and effortlessly carrying, great tone: on what truly shapes great tone: balanced facial and body mechanics, ideal interplay between embouchure, jaw, teeth, mouthpiece and reed, efficient use of breath, resonance awareness, and a calm, focused mind. Understanding how we learn and internalise music is key to how we practice. These fundamentals support everything from a warm, flexible saxophone sound to fluid improvisation and confident phrasing.
My lessons and workshops include:
- Saxophone tone development at every level
- Jazz improvisation training rooted in clarity, storytelling, and listening
- Efficient practice methods to build inner time, syncopation and technical proficiency
- Personalized guidance for rebuilding embouchure or filling foundational gaps
- Creative approaches to sound, focus, and musical flow
Whether you’re seeking one-on-one coaching or looking for a focused jazz improvisation group workshop to deepen your your understanding of sound, refine your technique, and reconnect with the joy of playing: you have come to the right address.
I offer private lessons and workshops for saxophonists, improvisers, and performers who want to strengthen their foundation—whether you’re refining your jazz language, rebuilding your tone, or filling in the musical gaps that were missed earlier in life. Together we explore sound, time, and creativity through focused practice, extremely slow tempos, embodied awareness, listening, transcription, and the art of making music feel inevitable.
In my teaching, I focus on what happens before the note: the physical organization of the face and body, the release of breath, the awareness of resonance, and the mental conditions that allow sound to emerge freely. This approach has helped performers of all ages develop a richer, more flexible tone, greater fluency, and a deeper sense of inner time. For improvisers, it opens the door to stronger phrasing, more confident choices, and genuine musical storytelling.
For over four decades I’ve lived inside the sound of the saxophone—exploring how tone is shaped not only by the instrument, but by attention, breath, imagination, and the body itself. My work as a jazz musician, photographer, and long-time student of Joe Allard’s principles has taught me that great tone is never an accident; it is the natural result of clarity, ease, and an honest connection to one’s musical intention.
If you’re ready to deepen your playing, reconnect with your musical voice, and develop the inner calm and clarity that great improvisation requires, you’re in the right place.
